Students in the US have many reasons to be stressed out aside from school, and lawmakers are finally taking note. In Utah, students can now take a day off from school for an illness that may be “mental or physical.” In Oregon, a law went into effect allowing students 5 mental health days off in a three month period. Lawmakers intend this legislation to empower teenagers to prioritize their mental health after recent studies revealed that students identified depression as a major problem amongst their peers.
